Robbie Keane has officially retired from (playing) professional football:

Robbie Keane has officially retired from playing football to take up a role on the coaching staff with the new Republic of Ireland management setup.

My favorite Robbie Keane moment is of course the last minute equalizing goal versus Germany at the 2002 World Cup. Speaking to the media minutes after the goal, he said: “Forget women, golf, even hurling, this is the best moment of my life!”

If you enter “Rob” into the YouTube search engine, even now, it still automatically prompts “Robbie Keane v Germany 2002”, or maybe that’s just because I’ve looked at the goal so many times!

Speaking in March 2017 on his induction into the Football Association of Ireland Hall of Fame, Robbie Keane said: “That goal against Germany at the 2002 World Cup made me a global name. That goal changed my life forever.” #ThanksRobbie

That Robbie Keane goal v Germany at the 2002 World Cup, is also a prompt for my favorite Mick McCarthy moment of all time. The way Mick’s mouth drops open as he sees the move coming to fruition and the ball hitting the back of the net and the ecstatic celebrations in the aftermath! Magnificent!
