Stephen Kenny has named his 22-man Republic of Ireland squad next month – with six home based players included.
Darragh Leahy of Bohemians, Zach Elbouzedi of Waterford, Jamie Lennon of St Pat’s and UCD trio Conor Kearns, Liam Scales and Neil Farugia make up the League of Ireland contingent for the prestigious tournament.
Barnet’s Jack Taylor received his first international call-up while Stephen Mallon, Canice Carroll, Jason Knight, Tyreke Wilson and Aaron Connolly are all called-up at under-21 level for the first time.
Southampton’s Michael Obafemi, Tottenham’s Troy Parrott, Manchester City’s Gavin Bazunu and Aston Villa’s Jake Doyle-Hayes all miss out through injury.
Kenny said: “We’re extremely excited about going to the Toulon tournament and this is a fantastic opportunity for the players to express themselves in one of the most prestigious under-age international tournaments.
“We’ve never qualified for the European Championships at U-21 level so this tournament represents the highest level we’d have played at and we’re set to play Mexico, China and Bahrain’s Olympic squads, as they prepare to qualify for Tokyo 2020.
“It’s also crucially important that we continue to build momentum throughout the year after the win over Luxembourg and looking ahead to the qualifiers in October and November.”
The competition begins next month with Ireland playing their first game on June 3rd.
Kenny’s side have been drawn alongside China, Mexico and Bahrain in Group C.
